We often think of terrifying people as being scary all the time. It’s hard to imagine them any other way. But, even the scariest people have moments where they look surprisingly human, or even cute. Here are 10 photos that might change how you see some of history’s most formidable figures.
Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay is known for his explosive outbursts in the kitchen. His fiery personality makes him a terrifying figure to watch on TV. He even credits his mentors and father-in-law for his explosive behavior.
But away from the kitchen, Gordon Ramsay is a family man. He is more gentle and docile than the chef we see on TV. He has three daughters and one son with his wife, whom he has been married to for 17 years.
Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson was feared in his prime because of his incredible boxing skills. But, did you know he loves pigeons? Iron Mike is an avid lover of his feathered friends.
One of the main reasons Mike started boxing was because a bigger kid killed one of his pet pigeons. He even complained that one of his ex-girlfriends ate one of his beloved birds. Ouch!
Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo is known for playing tough guys in movies. But, he is also a dog lover. The Machete star and his wife, Debbie, run the K9 Compassion Foundation, a shelter that rescues dogs and puts them up for adoption.
Danny also uses his fame to help owners find their missing pets. This shows a softer side to the actor we often see as a total badass.
Vladimir Lenin

Vladimir Lenin was a key figure in forming the USSR. He was a political genius admired by his supporters and feared by his enemies. His powerful speeches and strong leadership helped the Soviets gain control and become the dominant party in Russia. He was so respected that after he died, Communist leaders renamed a city in his honor and preserved his body, which is still on display today.
Lenin was also a cat person. He reportedly owned several cats throughout his life, showing a more gentle side to the revolutionary leader.
Al Capone

Al Capone was one of the most famous and controversial gangsters in the US. Known as “Scarface,” he turned Chicago into his personal territory during the Prohibition era. His gang was involved in smuggling, prostitution, and extortion. He was also suspected of ordering the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, where seven rival gang members were killed.
Despite being a notorious criminal, Al Capone was very close to his mother. Their bond remained strong throughout his life, and they were often seen together, even in his final days.
Charles Manson

Charles Manson, the psychopathic leader of the Manson Family cult, died in prison after being convicted of masterminding several murders, including that of Sharon Tate, who was married to film director Roman Polanski.
A seemingly innocent and mischievous grin in his younger years could easily be mistaken for a cute kid. But it was, in fact, the beginning of the expressions of a future madman. Does anyone else think he looks like a young Tobey Maguire?
Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy’s resentment toward his mother may have triggered his path to becoming a serial killer. Louise Cowell gave birth to Ted as an unwed mother. Although he was suspicious, Ted grew up believing she was his sister and his grandparents were his parents. His mother eventually married John Bundy, and it was only in college that Ted found out the truth about his parentage.
Despite what he did, his mother loved him until the end. They spoke on the phone moments before his execution, and she told him, “You will always be my precious son.”
Osama bin Laden

It’s hard to see Osama bin Laden as anything other than a radical Islamic terrorist who met his end in 2011. He was responsible for attacks that killed thousands of innocent people.
However, there was a time when he seemed like an ordinary person. As a teenager, Osama visited Sweden with his family. Looking at that photo, you’d never guess he would become one of the world’s most notorious terrorists.
Josef Stalin

Josef Stalin became the leader of the Soviet Union after Lenin’s death. To strengthen his power, he organized massive purges in the military and imprisoned or exiled his political opponents. His regime was extremely brutal, even more so than that of his German rival, Adolf Hitler. As time passed, Stalin’s oppressive rule worsened, and even his own family began to hate him.
Out of his three children, Stalin was only close to his daughter, Svetlana. However, even that relationship suffered because of Stalin’s controlling personality.
Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler is seen as one of the most evil men of the last century. He and the Nazis were responsible for the deaths of millions of people in one of history’s worst genocides, surpassed only by Stalin’s socialist purges.
Surprisingly, Hitler loved animals. He had a German Shepherd named Blondi who stayed with him until the end of the war. It’s strange how someone who loved animals could also commit such terrible acts against humanity.
