Have you ever found yourself crushing on a villain? There’s something magnetic about those dark characters in films and TV shows, isn’t there? Maybe it’s because they embody the traits we keep tucked away, playing out our hidden desires on screen.

Tom Felton vs. Draco MalfoyStephanie Beatriz vs. Rosa DiazKeanu Reeves vs. John WickTom Hiddleston vs. LokiLena Headey vs. Cersei LannisterPedro Pascal vs. Javier PenaKerry Washington vs. Olivia PopeMing-Na Wen vs. Melinda MayMisha Collins vs. CastielMads Mikkelsen vs. Le Chiffre

Actors often understand the freedom that comes with stepping into these roles. Strangely enough, some of the nicest people play the most notorious villains. Here’s a list of 10 celebrities who are the complete opposite of the characters they portray.

Tom Felton vs. Draco Malfoy

Tom Felton, known for his role as the dastardly Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, is nothing like his on-screen persona. When asked about his time filming, he always expresses joy and gratitude—things Draco would never show.

Felton has said he enjoyed playing the bad guy because it allowed him to explore emotions and situations he wouldn’t encounter in everyday life. He even wanted to keep his wand from the Harry Potter films but couldn’t bring himself to steal it after using it for over a decade. His ability to play serious, angst-filled characters has also landed him roles in films like The Apparition (2012), Stratton (2017), and The Forgotten Battle (2020).

Stephanie Beatriz vs. Rosa Diaz

'Brooklyn 99' Star Stephanie Beatriz Shows Off Her Rosa Diaz Voice & Teases 'In the Heights'

Stephanie Beatriz, the actress behind Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is almost unrecognizable from her character. Rosa is known for her leather jacket, low voice, and don’t-care attitude, which is the opposite of Beatriz’s real personality!

In interviews, Beatriz has mentioned that fans are often surprised by her actual voice and personality, with some even admitting they prefer her TV persona. She also wears glasses in real life due to severe astigmatism, unlike any of her characters. She once tweeted that her vision was so bad she kept missing her marks on set, even with bright pink tape marking the floor.

Keanu Reeves vs. John Wick

Keanu Reeves Plays With Puppies While Answering Fan Questions

Keanu Reeves is known for his roles in dystopian futures and dark thrillers, making him seem quite different from who he is off-screen. Despite often playing gunslingers, Reeves is an avid reader and is often seen with a book in hand. He’s even expressed a desire to travel back to the 1600s to uncover the true writer behind Shakespeare’s plays.

Reeves is the antithesis of his vengeful character, John Wick. He has taken pay cuts to allow other actors to star alongside him and lives a simple life despite his mega-stardom. He’s been known to chat with homeless people, help stranded strangers, and give up his seat on public transportation.

Tom Hiddleston vs. Loki

Tom Hiddleston Breaks Down His Career, from 'The Avengers' to 'Loki' | Vanity Fair

Famous for his portrayal of Marvel’s Loki, Tom Hiddleston is known as one of the nicest guys in the industry. Unlike his mischievous Norse god character, Hiddleston is grateful for his success and remembers his humble beginnings in theater.

Hiddleston supports several charities and is a UK ambassador for UNICEF. Fellow actors often describe him as attuned to his characters and appreciative of the opportunity to work creatively with directors to deliver meaningful performances.

Lena Headey vs. Cersei Lannister

Lena Headey Gets A Lot Of "Game Of Thrones" Hate | CONAN on TBS

Lena Headey’s portrayal of Cersei Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones made her a character fans loved to hate. Cersei is notorious for her love of wine, extravagant gowns, and ruthless theatrics. However, Headey is quite candid compared to Cersei, who always speaks with a hint of passive aggression.

Headey has admitted to feeling nervous about appearing on late-night talk shows. Unlike Cersei, who revels in her enemies’ deaths, Headey grieved with cast members after reading scripts that involved their characters’ demise. She is also a vegetarian and supports Alzheimer’s Research UK and the International Rescue Committee.

Pedro Pascal vs. Javier Pena

Pedro Pascal Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ

Another Game of Thrones alum, Pedro Pascal, is quite different from his characters. While he often plays dark and brooding roles, such as Nathan Landry and Oberyn Martell, his character Javier Pena from Netflix’s Narcos stands out the most.

The crime drama follows the story of Pablo Escobar. To prepare for the role, Pascal and his co-star underwent training at a DEA facility. Pascal has described himself as having an uplifting, bubbly personality mixed with honesty and humility. He even admitted to being starstruck while filming Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017).

Kerry Washington vs. Olivia Pope

Kerry Washington on Scandal

Shonda Rhimes is known for creating compelling characters, and Kerry Washington brings Olivia Pope to life in ABC’s Scandal. Her character runs a crisis management firm that handles political scandals. Washington used to live-tweet during each episode, interacting with fans in real time.

Washington made her mark playing firm-handed characters in shows like Law & Order (2001), Fantastic Four (2005), and Django Unchained (2012). She is a member of the Creative Coalition and V-Day, which raises awareness about violence against women and girls.

Ming-Na Wen vs. Melinda May

Ming-Na Wen has become a staple in pop culture, starring in Marvel’s Agents of Shield (2013-2020), Star Wars’ The Book of Boba Fett (2021-2022), and Disney’s Mulan (1998).

Known for playing strong, confident characters, Wen shares these traits but lacks the hardness of Melinda May or Fennec Shand. She’s described as quiet, calm, and collected. She even had to film a fight sequence on a moving train, which was scary due to her fear of heights.

Misha Collins vs. Castiel

Misha Collins Funny Bloopers VS Real Life

Misha Collins spent much of his time on the CW’s Supernatural (2005-2021) trying not to break character. Collins plays a serious angel known for his pensive demeanor and raspy voice. His co-stars often tested his resolve with teasing and pranks.

Castiel is strict and follows the rules of heaven, while Collins is lively and deeply caring. Collins’s charity, GISHWHES, is the largest international scavenger hunt dedicated to spreading kindness. He also has a cookbook with unique recipes inspired by his experience being homeless as a child.

Mads Mikkelsen vs. Le Chiffre

Mads Mikkelsen Explores 5 of His Most Pivotal Roles & Why He Lied in His ‘Casino Royale’ Audition

Mads Mikkelsen, with his distinctive look and talent for playing villains, is the epitome of an actor who is the opposite of his characters. In recent years, Mikkelsen has become a go-to Hollywood villain. He prefers exploring his chaotic side for roles in Denmark. His first international success was in the James Bond film, Casino Royale (2006).

Mikkelsen has mentioned feeling nervous while filming in a different language far from home. Before acting, Mikkelsen was a gymnast and dancer. He later attended drama school.

It’s fascinating to see how actors can transform themselves to embody characters who are nothing like their real selves. From kind-hearted heroes playing menacing villains to serious actors revealing their comedic sides, these transformations showcase the incredible talent and versatility within the world of acting.
