Have you ever wondered if time travel is real? While science hasn’t cracked it yet, there are countless stories of people who claim to have inexplicably slipped through time. These “time slips” are more than just déjà vu; they’re vivid experiences where people find themselves in another era. Let’s delve into ten of the most amazing reported instances of time slips.

Kersey in Suffolk: A Medieval Visit in 1957

Kersey village

In the autumn of 1957, three trainee soldiers stumbled upon something extraordinary while walking near the village of Kersey. As they approached, the vibrant colors of the countryside shifted to appear as if it were spring. The church bells suddenly stopped, and an unnatural silence fell. The houses appeared ancient, lacking modern amenities. White ducks near a stream seemed lifeless, almost like decoys. The soldiers felt an eerie sadness, transforming into fear as if hostile eyes were watching them. After about 25 minutes, they fled, and the familiar sounds of church bells and chimney smoke returned, suggesting they might have slipped back to a time before the church was built.

A Police Officer in Liverpool

Liverpool bookstore

Liverpool seems to be a hotspot for time slip reports. On July 7, 1996, an off-duty policeman named Frank was on his way to meet his wife at Dillon’s bookshop. He narrowly avoided being hit by an old van with “Caplan’s” written on the side. He noticed the road was no longer pedestrianized, and Dillon’s had transformed into a shop called “Cripps.” People were dressed in clothing from the 1940s or 50s. Following a girl in modern clothes into the shop, he saw it revert to Dillon’s. The girl, equally confused, corroborated Frank’s experience. Later, it was confirmed that Dillon’s was indeed Cripps in the fifties, and a local firm named Caplan’s existed, confirming the time slip.

Watching Baseball from the Past

Baseball game

In the early 1920s, two children from Flackton, Arkansas, named Robbie and Ann, took a shortcut through the woods to a baseball game. They came across an unfamiliar stream and, upon crossing it, found themselves in a landscape unlike anything they knew. The vegetation was different, with ferns growing to enormous sizes. Reaching a rise, they could see the ball diamond and their friends, but the voices sounded tinny and distant. After the game, they crossed back over the stream, and the strange dream world vanished. What makes this case peculiar is that the pair seemed to be looking forward into the expected scenery of their own time while in the time slip.

Five Lost Hours

Church

In 1973, a 21-year-old named Paul was driving home from a dance through Little Houghton when he suddenly lost all sense of time. He found himself on foot in Bromham, miles away, without his car. It was 7 a.m., and he was soaking wet despite the absence of rain. His car was later found in a muddy field near Turvey, with no tracks leading to it. Similarly, in 1988, a man named Paul Rainbow experienced a sudden motorcycle failure and a strange white glow near Little Houghton, losing an hour and a half in what felt like moments. These incidents suggest the witnesses traveled forward in time, enveloped in a strange phenomenon.

Wuthering Heights

Farmhouse

In the summer of 1959, actor Alan Helm was walking on the moors near Haworth, the setting for Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights.” Near Top Withins, he saw a man with a deerstalker hat and shotgun who disappeared. Proceeding towards the ruin, Helm suddenly found himself looking down at a large Georgian farmhouse. He knocked on the door and peered inside, seeing a table set for lunch and smelling farm animals. But the barn was empty, and Top Withins had vanished. He briefly saw the man again before running back to Haworth. During the experience, his watch had stopped at 1:45 p.m. and later reset itself to the correct time, suggesting a disconnection from the normal flow of time.

Fast Forward: Chile, 1977

UFO

On April 24, 1977, in Pampa Lluscuma, Chile, a small military unit led by Corporal Armando Valdes experienced a bizarre event. At around 4 a.m., a soldier saw two violet lights descending from the mountains. Valdes went to investigate a large glow on the hillside and disappeared. Moments later, he reappeared from behind the soldiers, disoriented and collapsing. By dawn, it was found that Valdes had several days’ worth of beard growth, and his watch had stopped at 4:30 a.m., displaying the date as April 30. Valdes suffered memory loss and poor coordination. The CIA agents who interviewed Valdes found him convincing, and some attribute the incident to a UFO encounter.

The Phantom Houses of Rougham in Suffolk

Horse and wagon

In October 1926, a teacher named Ruth Wynne and her pupil encountered a grand Georgian house while walking near Bradfield St. George. They noticed high walls and wrought iron gates surrounding the building, much of which was concealed by trees. Upon returning the following spring, the house had vanished completely. Years earlier, around 1912, a boy named James Cobbold and butcher George Waylett were delivering goods when the air turned cold, and a loud noise startled their pony. A three-story Georgian house appeared momentarily before disappearing into a mist. Waylett exclaimed it wasn’t the first time he’d seen the phantom house.

Versailles

Versailles

On August 10, 1901, two Oxford dons, Eleanor Jourdain and Charlotte Anne Moberly, visited Versailles. As they approached a wood, Moberly noticed everything looked unnatural. They encountered a man dressed in 18th-century clothing who warned them not to pass through the area. They later concluded they experienced a haunting, coinciding with the day Versailles was sacked during the revolution. Jourdain revisited Versailles on January 2, 1902, sensing a feeling of oppressive unreality and hearing silk dresses rustling behind her. She felt jostled by unseen people and heard faint music, which she later discovered was only played on New Year’s Day, not the 2nd.

The Armies of the Dead

Armies

On the evening of June 28, 1812, Anthony Jackson and Martin Turner saw a strange sight in Haverah Park near Ripley. Turner noticed a large group of figures, which Jackson identified as soldiers. They saw an army dressed in white uniforms led by a figure in scarlet, followed by another army in dark uniforms. The two units formed an L shape without engaging in hostility. After they passed over a hill, smoke obscured the nearby cattle for a few minutes. Turner recalled seeing the arms of the first army glinting in the sun, suggesting the smoke might have been similar to the mists associated with phantom houses.

A Fairy Fair in seventeenth-century England

Fairy

In the 17th century, time slips were often attributed to fairies. Around 1635, a man riding past Black Down in Somerset saw a large gathering of people resembling a country fair, complete with merchants and trinkets. Recognizing it was the wrong time of year, he rode closer, only to find himself jostled by an invisible crowd. He felt pain and hastened home, where he developed lameness on one side of his body for the rest of his life. The effects of this experience, including the invisible crowding and sudden physical ailments, mirror those reported in other time slip cases, connecting them across centuries and diverse witnesses.

These accounts of time slips offer a tantalizing glimpse into the unknown. Whether they are caused by glitches in the fabric of reality or tricks of the mind, they continue to captivate and intrigue. The similarities in experiences across different times and locations suggest there may be more to these stories than mere coincidence.
