Embarking on a cruise is often seen as a joyous escape, a chance to unwind and create lasting memories with loved ones. However, for some, this dream vacation turns into a nightmare. The vastness of the sea holds secrets, and sometimes, people vanish without a trace from these floating paradises.
Here are 10 unsettling cases of individuals who mysteriously disappeared from cruise ships, leaving behind unanswered questions and grieving families.
Amy Lynn Bradley
Amy Lynn Bradley, a 23-year-old American woman, vanished from Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line’s Rhapsody of the Seas on March 24, 1998, during a family cruise to the Caribbean.
She had been dancing with the ship’s band, Blue Orchid, until around 1:00 AM. Her father saw her sleeping on their cabin balcony around 5:30 AM, but she was gone by 6:00 AM. Despite extensive searches by the cruise line and the Netherlands Antilles Coast Guard, Amy was never found. Theories abound, but none have been confirmed.
George Allen Smith IV
In July 2005, George Allen Smith IV disappeared during his honeymoon cruise from Greece to Turkey. It’s believed he went overboard after a night of drinking and gambling.
Passengers reported hearing arguments and furniture moving in the Smiths’ room. His wife, Jennifer, was found passed out in a hallway with no memory of the night’s events. The FBI closed the case in 2015, suggesting an accidental death, but Smith’s family suspects foul play.
Rebecca Coriam
Rebecca Coriam, a Disney Cruise Line employee, disappeared on March 22, 2011, while working on the Disney Wonder in the Bahamas.
She was last seen on CCTV footage in the crew lounge, visibly distressed while talking on an internal phone. After hanging up, she walked away and was never seen again. Despite searches by the United States Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy, her body was never found. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain a mystery.

John Halford
John Halford, 63, went missing from Thomson Cruise’s Thomson Spirit on April 6, 2011, during a holiday cruise in Egypt. He was last seen at the ship’s bar, and his suitcases were found outside his cabin with gifts for his family.
When the ship docked the next morning, he was nowhere to be found. His body was never recovered, leaving his family with lingering questions about what happened.
Christopher Caldwell
Christopher Caldwell disappeared on the final night of a Carnival cruise to Mexico in July 2004. He was last seen leaving the casino at 2:17 AM after spending the evening with friends.
A crew member reported seeing Caldwell on the promenade deck around 3:30 AM, appearing heavily intoxicated. He was never seen again and is presumed to have fallen overboard. The coast guard searched for 36 hours before calling off the search.
Fariba Amani
Fariba Amani vanished from the Bahamas Celebration cruise on February 29, 2012, while traveling with her boyfriend, Ramiz Golshani. The 47-year-old mother was last seen at the ship’s gift shop.

Annette Mizener
Annette Mizener, 37, disappeared on the final day of a nine-day cruise on Carnival’s ship The Pride in December 2004. The ship was near Ensenada, Mexico, when she was last seen.
Her beaded purse was found with missing beads near a smoking deck, an area her family said she would avoid. A nearby camera was reportedly covered, and the captain waited hours before initiating a search. Her family suspects foul play, but the case remains unsolved.
Merrian Carver
Merrian Carver’s disappearance from a Royal Caribbean ship in 2004 is particularly disturbing. The 40-year-old woman vanished from a cruise to Alaska that her family didn’t even know she was on.
A cabin attendant noticed the bed hadn’t been used but was told to ignore it. The authorities were not notified, and her disappearance only came to light when her father filed a missing person’s report days later. The cruise line took 26 days to confirm she had been on the ship, by which time the trail had gone cold.
Hue Pham And Hue Tran
In 2005, Hue Pham, 71, and Hue Tran, 67, mysteriously vanished from a Carnival Cruise Line ship during a Mother’s Day cruise in the Caribbean. The couple’s passports, flip-flops, and other belongings were found on the ship.
Authorities believe the couple committed suicide by jumping into the sea together. Their son testified before Congress, advocating for stricter safety regulations on cruise lines.
These stories serve as stark reminders that even in the midst of luxury and leisure, unexplained tragedies can occur. The sea keeps its secrets well, and the families of these missing individuals continue to seek answers.
