10 Worst Movie Fight Scenes: Cringe & Laughs Await!
SHARE

Movies have a magical way of bringing people together, whisking us away to other worlds and making us feel a whole spectrum of emotions. A truly great film can make you laugh until your sides hurt or cry a river. Fight scenes, when done right, are often the most thrilling parts of a movie. But what happens when they go wrong? So, so wrong?

Contents
10. Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare (1987)9. Pit Fighter (2005)8. Mr. No Legs (1979)7. Ninja: Silent Assassin (1987)6. Rambu: The Intruder (1986)5. They Live (1988)4. Gymkata (1985)3. Night of the Kickfighters (1988)2. Exit Wounds (2001)1. Undefeatable (1993)

This list dives into ten movie fight scenes that are memorable for all the wrong reasons. From baffling choreography and questionable special effects to acting that misses the mark, these scenes are so bad, they’re almost good. Get ready to rumble with ten of the worst fight scenes ever committed to film!

10. Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare (1987)

Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare (1987)

This film’s title is alarmingly accurate. Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare is a passion project for Jon Mikl Thor, who not only stars but also penned the script. The movie features Thor, complete with magnificent ’80s metal hair, as a hero battling evil. The climax? A bizarre monologue delivered by Thor directly to the camera, addressing what appears to be an alien puppet.

What follows this heartfelt speech is one of the strangest on-screen battles you’ll ever see, set to an epic rock ballad – also written and performed by Thor, naturally. The alien puppet opponent is more baffling than terrifying, with a completely static face. It feels like the entire sequence was shot in a single, rushed take. The acting, effects, and the sheer premise combine to create a truly cringeworthy spectacle, solidifying its spot as one of history’s worst fight scenes.

9. Pit Fighter (2005)

Pit Fighter ending

Pit Fighter from 2005 earns the distinction of being a more recent entry on this hall of shame. The film stars Dominique Vandenberg as Jack Severino, a man who starts the movie with amnesia, only remembering his past as a pit fighter. As he gradually pieces together his life, a major confrontation ensues which features an exceptionally poor fight sequence.

While it’s more of a gunfight than a fistfight, this didn’t seem to simplify the choreography. The scene is an endless barrage of gunfire, with Severino mowing down what seems like hundreds of foes. When he inevitably runs out of bullets, he seamlessly transitions to dispatching henchmen with a sword. Eventually, surrounded by scores of gunmen, he inexplicably smiles before being riddled with bullets. The sheer number of extras, evidenced by the bodies littering the ground, doesn’t make this scene any more believable. It’s a strong contender for the least realistic movie scene ever filmed.

8. Mr. No Legs (1979)

Mr. No Legs will break you, fool.

Dating back to 1979, Mr. No Legs offers a fight scene from a movie so tasteless it’s hard to imagine it being made today. The film features wrestler Ron Slinker as a mob enforcer who, as the title suggests, has no legs. In reality, Slinker had no such disability, making the premise even more questionable.

Slinker’s character, the titular Mr. No Legs, carries out his enforcer duties from a wheelchair, or sometimes from the ground, or even in a pool. The highlighted fight scene shows him taking down an enemy from his wheelchair, then dismounting to eliminate another attacker using ninja stars cleverly hidden in his chair’s wheels. The entire movie is an exercise in absurdity, but this particular scene stands out as a monument to terrible fight choreography.

7. Ninja: Silent Assassin (1987)

NINJA : SILENT ASSASSIN * Final Battle

Director Godfrey Ho is renowned for his prolific output of ninja films, having directed over 120 movies. However, quantity doesn’t always equal quality, as Ninja: Silent Assassin demonstrates. The acting is painfully bad, and the film’s tone is utterly unbelievable. The scene that earns its place here is the movie’s final battle. Initially, none of the characters seem particularly ninja-like. Then, upon agreeing to a fight “to the death,” they all reappear in outlandish, cartoonish outfits.

What follows is a cacophony of terrible trash talk, over-the-top dramatics, excessive swearing, wild costumes, and utterly bizarre sound effects. It’s clear this is one of the least competent fight scenes ever filmed. Ironically, the ninjas in this film are anything but silent. Perhaps Godfrey Ho had simply run out of fitting titles for his ninja epics.

6. Rambu: The Intruder (1986)

RAMBU: THE INTRUDER (1986, intro) Peter O'Brian

No, that’s not a typo. We’re talking about Rambu, not John Rambo. Amazingly, Rambu: The Intruder is not a parody. The story goes that the “star,” Peter O’Brian, was spotted at a Jakarta airport and mistaken for Sylvester Stallone. This fleeting resemblance was apparently enough to spawn an Indonesian knock-off. O’Brian went on to have a career as an action star, but this film is largely a disaster, epitomized by the linked scene.

This particularly awkward fight scene sees Rambu effortlessly beating up multiple henchmen who were apparently upset that a woman had interfered. Rambu swoops in to save her, easily dispatching the thugs. He follows up with some cheesy one-liners, culminating in the declaration, “the name is Rambu.” This introduction sets the tone for a bizarre movie that only gets stranger.

5. They Live (1988)

They Live (2/4) They Live Fight Scene - FULL (Explicit Language) (1988)

The 1980s were a wild era for filmmaking, and They Live is a prime example of glorious B-movie cheese. The infamous fight scene starts with a simple disagreement. Then, fists start flying. One of the fight’s most memorable lines is, “I’m giving you a choice. Either put on the glasses or start eating that trash can.” The two men trade blows for what feels like an eternity, all while insisting they don’t actually want to fight.

The fight drags on, becoming increasingly ridiculous as one man desperately tries to make the other wear special sunglasses, and the other stubbornly refuses. Finally, the glasses are forced onto his face. Perhaps the best way to experience this scene is without any glasses at all, or maybe with your eyes completely covered. It’s long, repetitive, and hilariously overdrawn.

4. Gymkata (1985)

Best - Worst Scene from Gymkata

In 1985, someone thought it was a brilliant idea to cast Olympic gold medalist gymnast Kurt Thomas as an action star. Thomas was known for his gymnastic prowess and his impressive mullet, but not for his acting chops. The movie, Gymkata, was built entirely around him and his unique skills.

The core concept is that Thomas plays a gymnastics ninja. Yes, you read that right. This absurd premise leads to several fight scenes that are truly awful. In the featured clip, Kurt Thomas takes down numerous bad guys using a variety of impractical gymnastic maneuvers. At one point, he seemingly knocks down multiple enemies while landing a backflip. It’s worth watching for its sheer ridiculousness alone; this scene from Gymkata undoubtedly earns its place on this list.

3. Night of the Kickfighters (1988)

Worst (or Greatest) Fight Scene Ever? - Night of the Kickfighters

Another ’80s attempt to transform a sports star into an action hero gave us Night of the Kickfighters. This film stars kickboxing champion Andy Bauman. What’s a kickfighter, you ask? It’s just a kickboxer! Why they opted for this peculiar term remains a mystery.

The fight scene linked is just one of many poorly executed sequences in the movie. It showcases a painfully slow-motion fight that looks more like a stage rehearsal than a cinematic battle. Then, the main character is unceremoniously thrown through a window. Complete with overdone sound effects and excessive grunting, this scene is a perfect example of why there aren’t many famous movies starring kickboxers (or kickfighters). It’s sluggish, awkward, and generally amateurish.

2. Exit Wounds (2001)

No list of cheesy action fiascos would be truly complete without an appearance by the king himself, Steven Seagal. Exit Wounds, released in 2001, also features Anthony Anderson, who takes part in one of the film’s worst fight scenes. The chaos begins when Seagal’s character confronts Anderson’s in a club and immediately starts a beatdown.

Anderson’s character attempts to fight back but is clearly outmatched. He then calls in his security team, and utter mayhem ensues. The club seems to be inexplicably filled with an abundance of chains and easily breakable glass. The choreography is silly enough, but what makes it truly baffling is that the club patrons don’t even bother to leave while a full-scale, destructive brawl unfolds. This is one of the most well-known, and most ludicrous, fight scenes on our list.

1. Undefeatable (1993)

Best fight scene of all time

And finally, the top spot on our list of worst fight scenes goes to another dubious “masterpiece” from director Godfrey Ho: Undefeatable (1993). If you’ve spent any significant time on YouTube, you might already be familiar with this gem. The clip, often ironically titled “Best fight scene of all time,” has garnered millions of views. The scene kicks off with a character ominously licking a knife.

Both combatants engage in prolonged grunting before and during the fight, eventually tearing off their shirts for dramatic effect. When a woman in an arm sling suddenly appears and starts kicking, one of the characters is sent flying face-first into a wall. A wall which, conveniently, has a knife sticking out of it, impaling his eye. But the absurdity doesn’t stop there – his other eye also meets a grisly end. It’s a truly rough day for him. If you’re searching for the pinnacle of cheesy, over-the-top, nonsensical fight scenes, this one is simply unforgettable.

There you have it – ten fight scenes that prove even filmmakers with the best intentions (or perhaps, sometimes, not so great ones) can miss the mark spectacularly. While a well-crafted fight scene can elevate a movie, these examples show that a poorly executed one can become legendary for entirely different reasons, often providing more laughs than thrills.
