Biting attacks often bring to mind infamous incidents like Austin Harrouff’s disturbing actions or Mike Tyson’s memorable boxing match. However, the reality is that biting attacks occur far more often than we might think.

While biting is often seen as a childish behavior, the alarming frequency with which adults resort to it raises a fundamental question: How savage can humanity truly be?

10. Mafioso Muncher

Rebibbia Prison

In the confined world of prisons, everyday items can become weapons. In a bizarre incident on September 9, 2020, Il Messaggero reported that a Sicilian Mafia boss bit off and swallowed the pinkie finger of a prison guard during a cell inspection at Rome’s Rebibbia Prison.

Giuseppe Fanara, 60, was already serving a life sentence in solitary confinement under Italy’s strict 41-bis penal code, designed to isolate Mafia leaders and prevent them from running criminal operations from behind bars. Following the attack, Fanara was transferred to a high-security prison in Sardinia and faced additional charges, including aggravated assault.

Reports indicated that Fanara also wielded a broomstick, threatening guards by shouting, “I’ll slit your throats like pigs.”

9. I Don’t Eat Flesh, I Just Drink Blood

Man accused of biting store clerk in the face, arm

In April 2019, Joel Davila, 19, allegedly bit a chunk out of a gas station attendant’s face in Taunton, Massachusetts, after being caught stealing. Witness Michael Keegan detained Davila until police arrived, noting that Davila “hissed at me like a feral cat” and used the clerk’s blood to finger-paint.

Davila reportedly stated, “I don’t eat flesh, I just drink blood,” while licking blood from his fingers. Upon police arrival and the subsequent search for the missing flesh, Davila allegedly said, “I think I ate it. You can cut my stomach open to check.”

A judge ordered Davila to be held without bail at Bridgewater State Hospital for a mental health evaluation, as family members cited his instability. He had previously been arrested for vandalizing a church in November 2018.

8. Missing Manhood

Woman severs man's penis as he was reportedly sexually assaulting her

In a desperate act of self-defense, a woman in Greenville, South Carolina, escaped her kidnapper in August 2019 by biting off his penis. The victim, who remained unnamed, sought help at a local Waffle House after fleeing her captivity.

Authorities found Dennis Slaton, 61, a registered sex offender with previous convictions for sodomy and attempted rape, covered in blood at his residence. Slaton confirmed to 7News that his abductee had bitten off his penis during the ordeal. Slaton had picked up the victim at a gas station earlier that day, subsequently forcing her into his house at knifepoint and sexually assaulting her, also threatening her life. The victim defended herself by stabbing Slaton in the buttocks with his own knife.

7. Rough Roleplay

Allison Thompson Weaver

Oakland County deputies were called to a Rochester Hills, Michigan, residence in September 2019 to find two partially nude women covered in blood. Allison Thompson Weaver, 44, was found hovering over a 48-year-old woman with a partially detached ear.

The victim stated that she had invited Weaver for drinks and, after rejecting Weaver’s sexual advances, went to bed, only to be awakened by Weaver strangling her and biting her face. Deputy Shawn Hopkins reported that Weaver claimed they were having consensual sex, referring to the victim as a vampire and herself as a wolf. Further examination revealed a missing portion of the victim’s left ear and a chunk of cheek flesh that appeared to have been bitten off. The victim admitted to having kissed Weaver once in the past, years prior.

6. Uber Attack

Uber Driver Attacked

On August 18, 2019, Uber driver Yasser Hadi was attacked in midtown Atlanta by Tasheena Denise Campbell, 26, after dropping off a passenger. Campbell approached Hadi’s Prius unprovoked, damaged the windshield wipers, and entered the vehicle before attacking Hadi.

Campbell punched Hadi and then bit him in the midsection. Bystanders recorded the event but did not intervene until after the attack. Police arrested Campbell for battery and criminal trespass. She reportedly urinated on the station floor and repeatedly hit her head against the wall, leading to the need for restraints.

Hadi lamented that Campbell took a bite not only out of his ribs but also out of “my job, my health, and . . . pocket money.”

5. Psychotic Cellmate

San Diego Jail

In December 2019, Miguel Lucas filed a lawsuit against the County of San Diego, stating that his cellmate, Reginald Harmon, attacked him without provocation and bit off a significant portion of his cheek.

The lawsuit claimed that Harmon had a history of attacking inmates and that Harmon’s mother had warned authorities about her son’s need for a segregated cell. Lucas’s attorney, Chris Morris, stated that the incident reflected “a complete lack of direction in making mental health a priority in our jails.” Lucas claimed the incident led to PTSD and a large keloid scar due to inadequate medical treatment. He also alleged that a deputy observed the 15-minute assault on security monitors without intervening and later took photos with the severed piece of his cheek.

4. Moment Of Madness

Danielle Gaffar Strachan Injuries

Aura Nightclub in Dundee became the site of a brutal assault on February 3, 2019, when 19-year-old college student Danielle Gaffar attacked Kyra Strachan, 18, on the dance floor, due to a dispute over an ex-boyfriend.

Gaffar grabbed Strachan’s hair, slammed her head into the ground, choked her, and bit her cheek, resulting in permanent disfigurement. The bite required plastic surgery to repair Strachan’s face. The Scottish court sentenced Gaffar to 16 months in jail.

Defense solicitor Jim Laverty described the attack as “entirely out of character” and a “fleeting moment of madness” that resulted in outrage, death threats, and job loss for Gaffar. Despite Gaffar’s remorse, Sheriff Thomas Hughes deemed a custodial sentence necessary.

3. A Bite Out Of Discrimination

Wang Hong

On April 1, 2020, a COVID-19 patient in Guangzhou, China, bit nurse Wang Hong’s face after testing positive for the virus and refusing medical tests. Okonkwonwoye Chika Patrick, 47, assaulted Wang Hong when she attempted to stop him from escaping quarantine.

He pushed her to the ground, punched her, and then bit her face. Police planned to charge Patrick, a Nigerian passport holder, upon his release from treatment. The incident occurred amidst reports of increasing discrimination against Africans in Guangzhou following the COVID-19 outbreak, with landlords monitoring African residents and reports of forced quarantines and denied access to supermarkets and restaurants.

2. Never Mind The Dog, Beware Of Owner

Oakland dog-walker who bit pepper-spraying jogger claims self-defense

On January 3, 2019, Alma Cadwalader, 19, bit a jogger on Oakland’s Goldenrod Trail. Jogger Cyndi Stainner admitted to pepper-spraying Cadwalader’s off-leash shepherd-husky mix. However, only to prevent an attack.

Stainner stated that Cadwalader hit her in the head, pushed her face into the dirt, and tried to take away the pepper spray before biting her arm for 10–15 seconds. Cadwalader’s attorney, Emily Dahm, admitted that her client bit the jogger, asserting it was in self-defense. Cadwalader faced charges including false imprisonment, battery with serious bodily injury, and robbery.

1. ‘Hold My F—king Cigarette’

Cricket Coach Attack

During Christmas celebrations in 2018, a prominent businessman, Anthony Wade Mears, attacked cricket coach Jarrad Davies at a Welsh pub. Mears, the head of Saudi-based Ma’aden Aluminium Company, was home for the holidays when the incident occurred after Davies accidentally bumped into him.

Witnesses reported that Mears said “hold my f—king cigarette” before attacking Davies, biting him four times. Davies mentioned that one bite resembled a “second belly-button.” Mears initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty after being shown CCTV footage. He received a 21-month sentence, reduced to six months on appeal.

These biting attacks, ranging from the bizarre to the brutal, highlight the disturbing capacity for savagery that exists within humanity. From mafia bosses to nightclub brawls, these incidents remind us of the primal instincts that sometimes surface in the most unexpected and unsettling ways.
