Bummer And Lazarus
In 1860s San Francisco, two stray dogs named Bummer and Lazarus were city celebrities. Newspapers reported their exploits like modern-day celebrity gossip, with even Mark Twain writing about them.
Their fame stemmed from their close friendship. Bummer, a tough mutt, rescued Lazarus from an attacker. As Bummer nursed Lazarus back to health, they became inseparable.
